Drives around the Las Vegas area have been planned for us by Kay Matson (Las Vegas resident Z3er).  These will be the major activity planned for the weekend other than the Finale dinner and of course the socializing, partying, playing, amusement, etc. etc. that you may be able to figure out to do while in Las Vegas.

Mt. Charleston Drive

Fridays drive to Mt. Charleston begins at 10am.  Gather in the main hotel lobby prior to the departure time (approximately 9:30am) to get your maps and meet fellow drivers and group leaders.  There will be two stops on the route, at Las Vegas Snow and Ski area for a break and photo ops and at Mt. Charleston Lodge.  Lunch will be at the lodge.  Please have a full tank of gas prior to coming to the lobby, we will not be able to wait for people to fill up before the start of the drive.  (If you have a "family service radio" such as a Talkabout, please bring it on the drive with you to be able to talk with your group leaders and other participants on the drive.)  Return to the hotel from the lodge will be approximately 45 minutes.

  1. From Palace Station  take
I-15 north to exit #42A, US-95 North, approximately 1.8 miles.
  2. Take US-95 North past Kyle Canyon Rd (Hwy 157) to Lee Canyon Rd, Hwy 156.
  3. First stop, Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort [1] before moving on to Mt. Charleston Lodge [2].
  4. Mt. Charleston Lodge offers food, beverages of all kinds and gaming.

Valley of Fire Drive

Saturdays drive will start at 9am and go to the Valley of Fire, which is a National Recreation Area.  As such, there is a $5 charge per car which will be collected prior to the start of the drive.  We will also be going through the Lake Mead Recreation Area which has a $5 fee.  If you have a National Park Pass you will not need to pay the Lake Mead Fee.  We will meet before the drive in the parking lot of the hotel (approximately 8:30am) to get your maps, pay the fees, and meet fellow drivers and group leaders.  Please have a full tank of gas prior to coming to the lobby, we will not be able to wait for people to fill up before the start of the drive.  Return to the hotel from the museum will be about one hour via I-15.
