DAY NUMBER 11
08.28.2007

Well that clinches it. No more coffee!

Today we took a leisurely trip to Bardstown, KY through the scenic countryside.
Roads like this were designed for top down driving in the ultimate driving machine!

Downtown Bardstown with classic architecture,
modern day round-a-bouts
and Bourbon,
all of which we managed without incident.

Our first stop was Heaven Hill Bourbon Heritage Center.
Home of the 18 year old single barrel bourbon ($57/bottle) and brands such as
Old Fitzgerald.

Here our tour guide Billy Joe was showing us the ricks where 53 gallon barrels of bourbon were contentedly ageing.

Apparently even with computerized barrel mappings stuff happens.
This barrel showed up mysteriously and may become a single cask bottling of epic stature.

Time to belly up to the bar for some of that fine smooth Kentucky sippin likker.

Here BD is puttin down some green for the 1996 bourbon, bottled especially to commemorate the manufacture date of his lill car.

We figured you were tired of seeing NASCAR girls, so we changed gears for a more genteel approach to featuring the ladies.
These are the greeters at My Old Kentucky Home, where Steven Foster wrote the song MOKH.

This old flintlock pistol was found during a renovation of the building.
Did Aaron Burr sleep there????
We know Andrew Jackson visited there often, but they made him sleep on the couch.

There were multiple types of buildings on the grounds
A potential Insurance Agent's office, such as this one that would fit Blaine's needs.

Now this obviously is a lawyer's type (no windows and bars across the crawl space to keep out the "unwanted" vermin) that might fit MJDude's needs.

Now this is more fitting for a Big Oil resident, such as Tahoe or Fred R.
We hear that Fred patterned his new home after this residence.

The great meals just seem to follow us around when ever the convoy makes a stop.

We even had enuff time for Tahoe to stop and smell the....... Hey wait, this isn't a rose Blaine!

Speaking of food, we had to truck in some grub to feed the Hansen/Hackman/Clark family in Louisville.

Sticky fingers were the order of the night.

To avoid leftover food litigation and brawling, all the packages were carefully marked
and locked away in the ice box.

DAY NUMBER 12
08.29.2007

Rolled into Frankfort state capital of KY. Took a couple turns around the block...
Tom claims he was just getting his bearings... Others have differing opinions....
Be that as it may, nuttin was open yet, so we took a little self guided walking tour.

Tink's famous BBQ gone? Kitchen fire? Nope, Della set us straight...
Just an upset x-boyfriend trying to take out an x- girlfriend with a flaming phone book...
Use the book that works for you... Yellow Pages

Then it was time to meet bruiser who was taking his owner on a walk.
His walker gave the heads up for best (only) breakfast spot.

The imfamous Back Stretch Diner.........
Once we were through photo opping, we dropped in to meet Della, remember her, our very helpful sever.

Tahoe mulls over his breakfast choice.....
Actually the truth be told he is unable to pose and eat at the same time.
Della suggested going to the capital and then check out Rebecca Ruth.....

Ok here is a little trivia: What movie had parts of it filmed right here at the Back Stretch?
No IMDBing!

Well the ole Frankfort Historical Museum finally opened so we popped in...
Guess what?
They had pictures of the great Yellow Page fire......

More trivia..... "guess what this is?"......It was on the wall of the museum.

As we left the parking lot, we passed this ???? yellow car parked in the museum lot.
Even with our vast combined knowledge, we could not determine the make.
Probably a VW under there somewhere?

After circling three times, we had a photo opportunity at the Capitol.

On Della's recomendation we took the dollar tour at the world famous Rebecca-Ruth candy factory.
Erin, another new friend, wouldn't allow photos beyond here so it's a one beer minimum to learn the Bon Bon secrets.
Started by two school teachers (Rebecca and Ruth) it has been operating for four generations.
The FREE Bourbon balls were great!!!
Well not all of Blaine's balls were free...
Jerry was a fun guy and sent us on our next adventure...
Dan Boone's final resting place......
Oh, you can click on Jerry to find out more about his bourbon balls.

The armory in Frankfort......dated 1850. Older than Tahoe!
Check that one off at 50 MPH, it's hard to slow down the ///M once she gets rolling

Since Big Daddy slept through the opportunity to stop at Boone's tavern, we had to make a special trip to D B's grave.
It is located on a bluff overlooking the capitol.

The view from the grave.

Hmmmm.... this reminds me of something... Maybe this?

That ??? yellow car passed us in Tennessee one hour later.
Hillary??????

How do you truly know you have stopped at a Five Star eatery?

Menu items like this of course.
Tom was quite upset, as we had already eaten at the Back Stretch....
Maybe a couple to go Tommy?

What again????. This time Old Yeller shows up in North Carolina!
Someone likes that sexy guy in the cute red car.......

The BMW Zentrum (the Home of Homecoming) at 65 MPH.
Too much traffic to check it off at 80.

Our resting place( no, not like Boone's) for the next four days of activities.
