DAY NUMBER NINETEEN
09.03.2008

After sadly leaving our second family in Oklahoma,
we pass through Oklahoma City and the remnants of hurricane Gustav.

Some 5,614 miles into our trip,
the Vortex Green Machine was in need of little sip of synthetic supplemental nourishment.

Sayre, OK looked like an interesting stop for lunch. So, after cruising the town,
Tom went into the County Clerks Office to see if she would recommend a place for lunch.
Her response was ,,,,, "No, but I'll tell you where some are located"
I think we will move on.....

Sayre, the bail bonds captial of Oklahoma.
You can get out of jail just no place to eat once you get out.

A drive down historic Route 66 and to McLean Texas to the only restaurant, still running that is, in town.

We knew we were in a rough spot when we met The Red Hatitude Chapter of McLean dinning there.
Blaine had the Texas jalapeno burger...
The only thing he could mutter between gulps of diet coke was "I paid for it, I gotta eat the whole thing.".

What can we say, any restaurant with dead animals and license plates is OK by us.

Also, some real working Texas cowboys (with spurs on and saddled horses in their trailer) had lunch with us.
By the looks of those buckaroo tail ends, they have already put in a days work.

"Well that's a cute little car. Wonder if they have locking front hubs?"

OK Kathy, with all four in the front seat which one is the real cowboy?

Tom would have tried the 72 oz steak challenge in Amarillo
if he had not just eaten the worlds best ever toasted white bread patty melt in Mclean.

They offered us an even trade, but the truck was missing a headlight. So we declined.

Texas style taxi cab, with Tex helping another greenhorn outta the back seat.

At Cavenders, largest boot store in Texas, our buddy Cliff was able to provide Blaine with a fine pair of boots.
Honey, I was gonna need boots anyhow you should be happy that I got them.........

Blaine's regular supplier of duck hats was out of stock......bummer.
But Blaine did prove to one doubting Thomas that you can drive over 370 miles on one tank, with gas to spare.
However, Tom had his AAA card in hand when we rolled into Clines Corners.

Our signature parting shot.....
The sun sets over Santa Fe at the end of day 19.
